Signs and Symptoms of an Eating Disorder
A person with an eating disorder:
Symptoms of anorexia include:
- A drive for thinness and extreme fear of weight gain
- Poor and distorted body image
- Lack of menses
- Significant weight loss
Bulimia Nervosa
In order to lose weight or prevent weight gain, someone with bulimia will:
- Restrict food intake and then have recurrent episodes of binge eating during which there is a feeling of lack of control over eating.
- Purge after bingeing
- Be average, below average, or above average weight.
A person with bulimia is likely to:
- Experience wide and rapid weight fluctuations
- Have chaotic eating behaviours
- Have a poor and distorted body image
- Have extreme fear of weight gain
