EFAP services for Executives, Managers or Supervisors
Walmsley and Associates recognizes that it may be difficult for executives, managers, or supervisors to access EFAP services for a variety of reasons. Individuals in these positions may be concerned that their ability to provide leadership in the organization may be questioned if anyone became aware that they were in need of assistance for personal problems. Although personal information is not released to anyone at the worksite, there is no guarantee that individuals from the same worksite would not meet at the counselling office. The information on this page is designed to provide some suggestions for accessing specific services in a confidential and discreet manner.
Deciding What Services You Need
Individuals in management positions are often faced with a variety of difficult issues. You cannot be expected to be skilled at every task. It is important however, to do a personal assessment of your concerns to determine whether you should be seeing a counsellor or if your needs would be better met in another way such as workshops, training, or using the services of a coach.
You may need the services of a counsellor/therapist if the following are true:
-
this is a concern that has come up before in other areas of your life,
-
it affects your work, your personal relationships, and perhaps your health and recreational life,
-
others have suggested that you have a problem.
For information on how to decide if you need counselling or for information about our counsellors have a look at our Counselling page . You may also find the Fact Sheets useful to give you some ideas and information about a specific problem.
If you feel your initial call to our Intake/Reception office will jeopardize your confidentiality, you may contact Garth Walmsley directly by telephone or email. Garth can streamline the intake process, assist in matching with a counsellor and if necessary arrange for appointments away from the counselling office.
If the above does not really apply, perhaps the following are true:
-
is this issue one that is limited to a specific situation?
-
is it limited to work situations only?
-
is this an area that you know you are not skilled at because you have focused on developing other skills?
Many managers today are making use of professional coaches. A coach can assist with specific issues related to work or career. Some coaches are able to combine counselling skills with coaching depending on the needs of their client. For more information about coaching and finding a coach follow this link to the International Coach Federation.
NOTE: if you are covered under an EFAP program for counselling services, this does not include the services of a coach.
