Garth Walmsley
Garth has worked with individuals, couples, and families as a therapist in private practice since 1992. Prior to this Garth has worked in various positions as a social worker and counsellor. He has considerable experience working in the substance abuse field both in residential and out-patients treatment facilities.
Garth holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Victoria and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of British Columbia.
General Practice
Garth works with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families to help them gain insight into their difficulties and develop strategies that prevent these issues from surfacing in the future. He draws on a variety of different modalities to assist clients to resolve the difficulties that brought them to counselling.
Garth's practice includes the following areas: individual & family crisis, grief and loss, stress and anxiety, substance abuse, anger management, relationship difficulties, and depression.
Child Therapy
Garth has specialized in working with children since 1997. He uses both expressive/play therapy and cognitive behaviour methods to assist children in healing and resolving inner emotional issues that may have gone unnoticed to parents and other adults. As children use their behaviour more easily to express their emotional world, Garth's work with children focuses on understanding their behaviour, directing and focusing it, and ultimately giving it a form that is more understandable to the child his/herself and well as the adults in the child's life.
