Tammi Froese

Tammi completed her Bachelor of Education degree with Simon Fraser University in 1987 and has taught in the Prince Rupert, Vernon, and Nechako Lakes School Districts.  In 2000, Tammi completed her Masters of Education (Curriculum and Instruction) degree with the University of Northern British Columbia.  After nineteen years of teaching, Tammi felt the need for a change.  Her love of interacting with her students, their parents, her friends and colleagues made counselling a natural career choice.  Tammi returned to the University of Northern British Columbia and completed her Masters of Education (Counselling) degree in 2007.  She has worked for three years as District Elementary Counsellor for School District No. 91 (Nechako Lakes).

Tammi has taken courses in art therapy, grief counselling, First Nations counselling, and family counselling.  She holds certificates in the areas of suicide prevention, suicide detection and intervention, threat assessment, non-violent crisis intervention, and response ability pathways.  Tammi's counselling experience includes dealing with anger management, grief/loss, family separation, anxiety, self-esteem, social skills, trauma and abuse, and parent/child conflicts. Tammi follows an integrative approach to counselling that includes person-centered, cognitive-behavioural, reality, and solution-focussed perspectives.  Clients are encouraged to discover and develop their own strengths and capabilities which they can then utilize in future situations in an independent and responsible manner. As a counsellor, Tammi endeavours to maintain a therapeutic relationship that emphasizes genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathy.  Such a relationship, she believes, creates an open and safe atmosphere that is necessary for growth and change.
